ICE ICE BABY...

One of the reasons I've disliked Delhi for is its absence of two of the most beautiful things of Nature-two things I really love...Sea and Snow.
Mumbai scores a lot of points over Delhi in my eyes because of The Arabian Sea. Infact one thing for which I fell in love with the IITB campus when I went there last year was the lakes (the other being the hilltop). Water is such a beautiful, sublime gift of Nature. (I'm now looking forward to my next week's visit to Mumbai and Goa:D)
The other thing is Snow. It's so pretty, so beautiful, so enchanting, so cool that it's actually hot!
But we in Delhi don't even get that!:(
Winters get sufficiently chilly..but it's always like "almost there, but not quite". A near-zero temperature loses half its worth and becomes double as chilly when it doesnt't fall to sub-zero and allows the snow to fall!!
Having said all this, I'm still a huge fan of Meri Dilli(inspite of ALL else that may be good, bad or ugly) because of the ULTIMATE variety of everything-people, food, cultures and especially, weather.
We get the joys of all kinds of seasons over a year, and be it Rajasthan's heat or Shimla's chill, or cherrapunji's monsoon, we have our own miniature versions of everything!
It gives a feeling of completeness in a way. My wardrobe has clothes of all seasons and reasons. So is the kind of food I get to eat in a year, and the various types of routines my days take.
Ah! I'm definitely not complaining!:D
But there is the other side of it naa, which some people dislike(I don't, not much...I love DRAMA in life, I love things to be 'happening' and 'unpredictable' all the time, atleast a lot of the time. I dislike routines and monotony.)
There's absolutely no reliability about the weather patterns. It'll snow in Shimla and Delhi will become cooler.
Winds blow in Pakistan and monsoon gets delayed here.
Jaipur burns and transfers the heat to Delhi!!
Hadd hai...apna bhi kuch hai ki nahi?
Amongst all seasons, obviously Spring is the best- for the pleasant weather and the plethora of beauty. But winter is a close second. It's sooo beautiful, so comfortable, and one could freely do anything once u've worn lotsa clothes!:P
Infact, there's only one thing that can beat "Icecream on a chilly winter night walking on a dark road"...which is "Icecream in a drizzle walking on a deserted road alone!"
It's one of the most peaceful (and romantic) things on Earth!
Right now, it's the delightful winter dawning on Delhi. And it's unusually cool for this time of the year, so that temperature are already hitting 4.5 degrees at night(subtract atleast 2 for IITD campus, another one for MY ROOM!!!). The breeze that's flowing is oh-sooo-chilly, and nights are soo cold that I have to switch off my computer at night because I can't convince myself to bring out my fingers from my blanket and type!! But stiil, that's THE beauty. Winter legitimises ur indolence!!!D
The only thing that makes it uncomfortable, just a little bit, is these sickening exams, which label two of the most delightful things of winter-sleep and laziness- appear like a sin.
Although inspite of all this, I'm still sleepin 10-12 hours these days(majors hain, I'm amazingly weli!!!!!!) and acting sooo lazy that I dont care to get out of my bed to pick up a book 3 feet away, as a result of which I don't study and leave the curse unfinished and end up losing a grade!!
But frankly, I don't care!
Exams to aate jaate rehte hain...I'm just enjoying the icy weather!!!!
Anyway, there's just one more exam to go.
Then I'll be free to enjoy lotsa sleep, lotsa hot-drinks and hot-conversations for atleast one week(and then I'll be off on a vacation...where hopefully there'll be lotsa hot guys:P:P:P!!!)

Snow depends more on the humidity level than the temperature. Delhi is so dry in winter that it wouldn't snow even if the temperature goes below zero.

Anonymous said...

You know what you are missing , though I have had enough of both of them for the time being :-) (lucky, happy me :-)) ). Water is amazing and When it snows it is heavenly (though i hate it when the snow starts melting)

Anonymous said...

I like the summers too...what with the mangoes and the minimal clothing and eye candy and such :P

Anonymous said...

Anon already said what I had to say. Delhi may not get snowfall even the temp goes below freezing point. It's actually a common misconception that sub-zero temperature will definitely mean snowfall. snow wdn't fall from a clear sky, wd it? On the contrary, I've experienced snowfall even at 5 deg C

During my month-long stay in Delhi (Dec 15 to Jan 15,), I had loved the winter there :-)

U`ll b touring and holidaying just to meet handsome hunks! :P:P

Guess we are better off during winters ..cuz girls everywhere somehow look hotter than normal as the chill sets in :D

Anonymous said...

agreed delhi is great n so r its winters :)

though me was just wondering why did u subtracted 2 frm IITD campus' temperature ?
i guess that's coz of the dearth of HOT gals that the temperature in IITD
campus is even below normal :), n ur rooms temperature is even lower...lolz

PS: happy bird watching aka guys GAZING (in ur terms) n best of luck for the last exam !

@Anon, Raja
Arey my geography isn't so bad that I wouldnt know that!
All I meant was that since we anyway have winter rains in December, had the temperature been a little lower, there was a good chance of having snowfall....

@inhas
All right now i'm jealous.

@TLC

Almost jungle hai....esp mere hostel ke aspas kafi ped hain na

Will read the post later, although it has become very cold all of a sudden hasn't it?
For now, thanks for changing my name on your side panel. Of course it's your blog and you can call me anything you want, it's entirely your wish.
I wasn't offended at all earlier, and I found it a tad funny, and decided to joke about it a bit, bas.
Don't treat everything like it's very important, that's all I ask.

Me jealous..You are going to Bombay:(
Baby, want to see snow? There is 4 inches in my place. Wish I could post it to you..I so dont like snow:((((

Anonymous said...

As i type this sitting in my room, I can see the snow falling and the faint outline of the sea. I will put the photo up on my blog hopefully. maybe it will make you wish that you end up in vancouver next year.

Anonymous said...

It is 4.5 in Delhi. Minus 2 for the campus and minus 1 for your room (why?)... so it is already 1.5 in your room. Start the fan at full speed and you might have a snow fall within room!

"Water is such a beautiful, sublime gift of Nature"

I hate Delhi, not its weather.
I love Mumbai, not its weather.
I hate Roorkee, and its weather too.

When am I ever going to be in a place I love both ways.

And hey whats the difference between ICE And SNOW?

get over the enssems fast, its good riddance.

Here u lament the absence of snow in dilli.imagine me , having lived for 22 years in delhi , and now having to 'bear' the 'winters' of calcutta which is an insult to any decent winter.it hardly gets chilly here.im still prancing around in my summer tee shirts.though i tell ma on the fone that I am wearing a monkey cap , jacket , thick jeans and socks.and i see my south indian pals go "aiyyo , so cold da !" and think "man , this is cold ? then delhi was an igloo.".sacchi , i miss the delhi sardi , the foggy mornings , the lazing in the sun while munching on peanuts , watching TV sitting cozily in a quilt...and here , the fan still whirrs over me as i type this.delhi , just hang on , im coming over soon.

Actually, you might not believe this but it is a good thing to leave the comp switched on during the night. It keeps the room sufficiently warm. Not as warm as a heat convector, but decently warm

Anonymous said...

why shd u envy me yaar..i am in THE pathetic state..neways a hol wid friends is worth anything..am alone her in hyd among hadddus.........now pity me !!

Anonymous said...

Ey!.. you mentioning water just made me nostalgic.. I live in a place surrounded by the sea on three sides.. :) ( Kerala is not called God's own country for nothing, it has plenty of water!) honestly, lack of water is one reason I hate Delhi. Not listening to the ocean at night, not drenching in the monsoons.. ( the ones in Delhi are fake..)Not jumping into the neighborhood pond... I want to go home.

exams over... mere bhi tumhare bhi :)

the one thing which i dont like...[ infact i hate sometime ] about winter is ... fog and cloud all day. only fog is good... only cloudy will also do.. but both... omg.. u cannot play cricket.. u cannoy enjoy sun... to fir kare kya? yeah ofcourse 12-14 ghante se jyada sona achha nhi lagta
