Long Drives.

I like analogies.

Life is like a long drive. Mostly, we are driving alone, in a car whose size changes with time and need. Some people have a load of people in their back seat who they have to drive for. A lot of times, there's nobody, just us, driving on, listening to the monologue on the FM. Some phases, out of city limits, are so lonely there's no FM either.

Sometimes we are driving in the fast lane, zipping past everyone else. Sometimes, we are stuck in traffic jams and getting nowhere in life. Sometimes, driving is a big pain, zipping through mad traffic and lawlessness, struggling to manoeuvre so as to get somewhere. Actually, to think of it, a lot of it is like that.

Sometimes it's raining, and the car gets stuck in deep water. Sometimes it's so foggy you can't see anything. Sometimes someone bumps their car into you, jolting you completely. Sometimes you run out of fuel or a tyre is punctured, and have to stop/push your car to the next station. If you're unlucky, once in a while your car breaks down completely, and then you need help to repair it and get it on the road again.

But you keep moving. Through roads and lanes. Sometimes even on paths that do not exist, on a road in the wild that you make as you travel. You just keep moving, till the end comes and you die in a fatal accident, on the road. That, is the rule.

And most of the times when you're driving by yourself, tired of the FM monologue you wish there was someone sitting next to you you could talk to: a friend. And you wish and you dream there was the someone special you could find who promised to stay by your side on your journey, someone who touched your hand everytime you moved it to change the gear.
Someone who bent over to kiss you at every red light.

Life, is a long drive. Sometimes, brakes fail.

all i am worried is finding the fuel which keeps this car going

and when the brakes fail...people who are waiting by the roadside for you to pick them up hope that along the way ahead when you get it repaired you would come back for them.

PS- cars invariably do have reverse, but not all drivers choose to use it

I also like analogies, so let me poke my nose. Well, so it's no doubt where all the pollution comes from, with more and more lives and more and more time, it'll increase I guess. Then, you can't speed, and you can't stop in the middle. Whatever be your reason. If you do, you are an enemy of all humanity. It doesn't matter if you think you're going to a more important place than they are, the idea is, on the road, everybody is free and has equal rights. Then, there are some hitchhikers, the moment you pick them up you know they're going to get off soon and you have, say 30 minutes to build a relationship. People who stay longer than that will drift off to sleep. Now and then, people will shout profanities and it'll take you some time to understand what happened, you could shout back, or let it go, it doesn't matter. And you also keep looking at number plates, for a familiar one.

Any idea where we can insurance company that can pay us for the damage caused due to accidents?

And sometimes you find hitchhikers along the way who you give a lift to; or perhaps find a like-minded driver. And you end up loving them so much you could never drive on a route different from theirs, you'd always be in the next lane with anything from a spare tyre to new songs to replace boring FM monologues.

Sometimes you don't believe people like these could actually exist, and despite everything they say you believe they will take a left when you'll take a right sometime. But that's when life becomes full of pleasant surprises, when you find they're always right next to you no matter which road you're on.

Yeah, life's a lot of traffic jams, red lights, breakdowns and lonely rides.

But life's also a lot of open freeways, countryroads, smooth drives and carpools.

Don't worry, there are plenty of fuel stations along the path, keep up and keep looking around.

The reverse bit is true, life cant truly be driven backward, except as long as it's a long drive u dont really reverse, do u...life cant be parked in a garage after all...

and about picking ppl up, well nobody can go BACK to the exact same point to get back smone, but roads cross and get to the same spot again

Well, you're good, you know. :D
Like the pollution bit...

[:d]
If you're paying your premium on time, you'd get back your insurance without even filling the claim form.

Good one, babes!

And sometimes, there is an alternative as well, to walk. The pollution, speed and noise might intimidate you, but you'll be sure to never be stopped by traffic jams or red-lights. You can close the rest of the world from yourself by putting head-phones on and other pedestrians always seem somehow more accessible than those in cars. There won't be a windshield or something to stop you from leaning to a fellow and talking to him and you have a choice to quit by calling a cab. Each pedestrian must care about himself. It isn't the responsiblity of one of them to lead the others. The destination might apppear slowly but it always will because a pedestrian has to be responsible only for his own self and not a huge car as well. And one can be as free as they want! But it is difficult in a way and a commuter must choose to walk only if he/she can endure the jeers of those on wheels

Good one..;) I had forgotten all about analogies, and you have reminded me of one and that too a good one!

Well said.
There are no nevers, but yeah, you meet companions and thats the whole point of the journey. Freeways are good; life is a nice heady mix.
Surprises and surprises.

Hehe, sarcasm taken, friend. Watch out for more happy ones.

[akshay]
My way of looking life is just the long drive bit, maybe because i am lazy :P Walking is tiring, and also more accessible than life really is, isn't it?
Just think the drive is a better analogy for reality, but like your point of view, dude.

How can you ever forget analogies...they are like essential to understand concepts :P

"sarcasm" .. nah!!

Divesh = :D, if that makes it more clear :)

Or was it sarcasm the other way round? :P

Yup its alwayss fun:-))

going ahead is right and usual :)

:) going back when u have been there, seen it all makes no sense, u agree now?? ;)
but when the driver preoccupied with the roads taken in the past, absentmindedly and mechanically traverses the lengths indifferent to everything else besides merely making it forward, in the time ahead when the senses return, the reverse is also practically moving ahead, and on that cross road when the familiar stretch starts you can take left or right as one pleases. as for people ....some are sticklers, wont budge :P

PS- that dint stay metaphorical, or much of an analogy for that sake :)

Always is a tricky word, but id buy it for now!

2. Who asaid we always do, or should do, things that makes sense!
3. Thanks for the monologue, stickler. Stay alive, ok! ;)
