Yeah, it is really sad. Let me give u an example mostlybhu, like when a gf asks her bf to sacrifice something, and he doesn't want to and she goes like, "don't u love me, can't u do this for me?" i mean whats love gotta do with expecting something from the one who loves u. As far as i knew, love was unconditional. We love someone for ourselves, not for them.........
ya i agree that expectation on the part of any of d partner is not at all justfied...but the kind of sacrifice i am referring to is the one that u make on ur own...just because u r in love...and not coz of any persuasions. Atleast thats what i interpreted it to be... :)
and abt ur last statement i dont think we love someone for anybody... if its true love... it just happens!
...and i dont know if these parameters wud matter in that case? :)
No big deal if other person is also in love with you i.e. willing to sacrifise equally or even more... Coz you know, if you fall there's a person to save you.
Beware, one sided boundaryless sacrifise can be fatal :P
I don't agree. It's not all that bad. To the one we love(if true love), love is unmeasurable and who cares how the rest of the world interprets it! And artificiality shouldn't be confused with love.
The times have always been like this only. (Remember Jesus, almost all ancient love stories..) It was most apparent some 10 yrs back.. Didn't you weigh love with chocolates then? I've doubts over bachche-mann-ke-sachche philosophy. They are, in fact, the most adapt people in this bad bad world. They are selfish, they would fight fiercely for their cause.. but they would make up rather easily for a greater benefit. Khud ruthein khud man jaayein- the big politicians. No wonder, growing up is a pain. With it, we get to know about some ideal world that 'should' exist, some good qualities we 'should' have.. and we start unlearning our perfectly adapted childhood psyche. No good.
[perx, mostlybhu] Agree with you perx. People who measure love by what the bf gifted me, what all my wife left for me, and how much can I forgo for that person arent really in love.. The moment u start measuring it, you've lost it..yet today's times ppl actuallty turn back n ask..."what have u done for me?" as a proof n measure for love.
[passionate] It may not be bad, but it's sad in the sense when u start noticing if my sacrifice is equalto/greater than/less than hers/his. It's not worth quantification.
[aditi] Ideally, yes. But when I look around, so many times...
[sunshine] Not the act of "doing" sacrifice, but the act of measuring it, equating it or making it a pre-requisite of love... ....sigh.
[vik] Always? I hope not... And I didnt weigh love with chocolates...but I get ur point..."marketing" love has only made stuff worse. And such daravane vichar against kids. They're carefree, and enviable, yes, bt dont cast them evil. They're just what u dream to be, hence that reeks of jealousy, my frnd!
They are not so on purpose or by choice. But in the 'field' of life, they have a high 'forgiving power' and 'forgivability'(:P). And for that, yes, I'm jealous of them. :)

I think it's worse.
isn't that the reason why they still call it love? :)

Hey! Come on!! Its not that bad.
It just depends on the choices one makes. :D

Not really. Sacrifice is relative term. We are happy if we it willingly otherwise we sacrifice :)

Ah well...
[vibhav]
Maybe, and I don't want to think much in that direction either. Scary.
[mostlybhu]
I sincerely hope it is not...love was never meant to be measured...least of all by sacrifices..

I hope you're right.

You know, as we grow older,we fall lower in that field. We lose our power to forgive n forget,n hence to be forgiven.
