Of laptop ports and crazy hospital staff

So, summer is over and yet another semester begins tomorrow morning, although I don't quite have a class tomorrow. The LAN port of my laptop was slightly loose so the connectivity was maintained only when u pressed the wire a little, however finding a repair for this simple thing took three days as Lenovo wanted to change the motherboard (at 15k!!) and most people asked 2k for opening the lappy to replace something that's worth 40 rupees. That's when I discovered thank-you-Chinese-electronics in the shape of a USB-connected external LAN port for less than 300 bucks, happily sitting as an appendage on my laptop now.

That said, I was at home last week, and you know at home nothing really happens :P Except this week I was brave and finally forced myself to do some shopping, which, unlike 99.9% of girls, I hate. It's a tiring chore, and my inertia against it is so immense that I hadn't bought any summer clothes at all in the last 2-3 years and the only additions in my wardrobe were a couple someone else had brought. And I'd forced my mother with all the protest over her "choice" to not get anything for me on her own. Which is why on Thursday, after dilly-dallying the entire summer, I had everything from shoes to bag to clothes to sun-block on a shopping list, and I forced myself to go through most of it with Mom's help. Eesh.

Have been wanting to write for a couple of days, but somehow circumstances haven't been exactly conducive. Yesterday Ma fell ill and was hospitalized for the night. I had just reached IIT an hour before Dad called and asked me to come, and it was a scary one hour when I wasn't sure what all was wrong, Dad's phone wasn't reachable and the confused hospital authorities made me run for 15 minutes across the hospital from ICU to wards to labs. The staff there is half crazy, I swear ,divided into three clear groups of the Sardarnis , the south Indian nurses and people who are mute. Thankfully mom is all right and home now and tests are normal too, so nothing to worry any more, but for some time I know how scared I was beneath my calm and positive exterior, but nobody will understand that. Thank God it's over. Should be more regular now on in blogosphere.

Among other things, I need to find a way to stay occupied, and find some friends, in order to survive the coming semester. And to learn to live in this new room. Suggestions welcome.

Summer is over.
Is it? I disagree considering last few day. Hellish.

And you should be happy that you don't have an Apple laptop or they would have suggested you to swap the laptop for the minutest of fault. After all that's the only way for them to sell more stuff.

Hospitals can make even an healthy person ill. And regarding new friends, why don't you try some freshers; other day in the wind tunnel, many of them were as nervous as [fill in the appropriate word here ;)].

I hope aunty is doing well now.
Hey I need that USB-connected external LAN port as well. bcoz I hv same prob bt I m too lazy to fix it up!
To live in a new room, you can surely spend sometime in decorating ur room n of course cleaning it!! After so many weekends, I stayed back in hostel just for cleaning my room!!
And the best way to keep yourself occupied is buy a reliance mobile and find a bf having one as well. and then lage rahoo ;) :P :P :P

hmmm. a new room! well, I love it when I get a new room :D it's such a nice change!

it involves shopping, so you'd probably not do it, but getting something (decorative) for your new room could a good pastime :)

Well, the summer in between semesters is, but when did I say the heat had left us. It's time for humid hot rains, and autumn.

I entirely share your view on hospitals. I find them really disturbing depressing places. And I hate medicines too. I actually told my mom, get well and get out of here soon, I hate the place. The smell the light the atmoshphere..I cant take it and I think the doctors who can are extremely brave. When I was younger my parents wanted me to become a doctor, and I was like I could become anything but a doctor.

She's better, only a little weak. And her back has deteriorated a little, but hopefully she'd be fine now and this wont recur. Thanks.

More to come, am sure. Good life. :)

[aditi, oracle]
yeah, thanks.

[justso]
I will. Thank you.

[:D]
She's better, thanks. Was scary, but it almost feels as if a bigger catastrophe was averted. Thank God.

She's better, thank you.
You should get the port from any computer accesories shop, or nehru place. Good thing is you dont need to carry ur laptop around and it's a pretty handy fix.

Spent sometime cleaning up the room already. Decoration as and when mood swings in, but it already looks hospitable.

What a suggestion though to kill time. Buying a mobile is ok, but where do I find proud-reliance-owner boyfriends??

Can I place an ad somewhere "Wanted patient wela courageous nice guy for 21 yr old IIT girl with a lot of free time. Must own Reliance mobile" ??

[kanupriya]
Nice change, at least till I get habitual of getting to the right room even in half sleep. It's hotter though, my previous room was almost entirely insulated from the wind sun and rain of outside. Always cool and comfortable!

Getting something sounds a bit too much for me to be able to do, but I could make something. there are enough artefacts already, and pictures etc I have separeated to put on the walls when I have the mood.

Vik said...

Edit. edit. It should go like..

"Wanted patient wela courageous nice guy for 21 yr old IIT girl who hates shopping (UNLIKE 99.9% of girls!) and has a lot of free time. Must own Reliance mobile"

:P :P

anand said...

I think we are losing our focus, the classified should go like this:

Wanted a Reliance Mobile that comes with a free guy. The owner will mold him into whatever she wants ;)

daman said...

hope ur mother is fine now... and it's good to see u splurging cash on some shopping... some times it's good that 0.1% be with rest of the junta!!!

Wanted wala add comment section ki jagah post mein daal do :P :P :P
I think that wil give a better response ;):D {And if u r really doing so pls tk care of Vik's suggestion also! lol.

Phoenix said...

[vik]
Hmm..interesting, do you think that would be an added attraction...i mean i understand resume type language hai :P but worth it, u think, for attracting more candidates??

[anand]
rofl. Good idea. In that case, I'd make it two Reliance mobiles. Wanted two Reliance mobiles and one patient wela courageous nice guy that come free along.

Though I doubt there wd be any takers for that.

Phoenix said...

[damna kohli]

Yeah she's better. I dont even like "splurging" cash u see...as far as being careful with shopping is concerned i am still like a lot of girls :P :P

[geetika]
Chill hai, I dont exactly want anonymous offers made :P :P

One more blogger said...

You can put this clause [I dont exactly want anonymous offers made] in post as well :P :P :P :P

Vik said...

It's very obvious, aint it? Hates shopping, avoids incomprehensible 'lol's.. kahaan milti hain aisi ladkiyaan..

[Geetika]
Looks like, post likhawaa ke hi maanogi! :P

Phoenix said...

[Geetika]
sorry for not keeping the request, but I fear consequences :P :P Hopefully, someone diligent enough would have made thru to the comments, and I dont want aalsi ones anyway :P :P

[Vik]
Haye, you raise my hopes!!

Waise, what's on, first you day-dream :P :P, now you flatter :P
Kya chal raha hai

anand said...

ok here is the final copy edited version of the classified:

Wanted two Reliance mobiles and one patient wela courageous nice guy that come free along to listen to a voice inside him.

Phoenix said...

Ah.. how touching..

aisa koi milega kya! kaash....even without the mobiles....

One more blogger said...

[Vik]IIT mein waise bhi bade crisis hai gfs k so soocha aap jaise IIT guys ki kuch bhalai ho jaaye :P :P

[Phoenix]Its okay!! Dont be sorry! Jinhe chance maarna hai woh comments se hee trace kar lenge :P ;) :D

Bhushan said...

listen to a voice inside ..aise bahut milenge..but considering the amount of free tym u intend to spend..widout the mobile.. both of u wud need to stay 2gether :P which unfortunately is not allowed in d campus as of now..unless u choose to move out :D

so better stick wid the mobile wala clause..and enjoy d screening process..atleast dat cud kill some of ur tym :)

on a different note.. does any1 have/know of some1 wid airtel postpaid in campus?? 4 din se dhund raha hu..customer care se baat karni hai..phone chalu karwana hai :)

one sample ad u can use :P :P
but my ad is serious :(

One more blogger said...

[mostlybhu]aap k liye bhi same suggestion :P :P :P
comment ki jagah move ur ad to the post. It wil be more noticed :D

Phoenix said...

[geetika]
Arey sahi, logon ka bhala kar rahe ho. :P :P

[mostlybhu]
Ah well..itni mehnat karne se achha to landline se call kar leta customer care pe...10 bucks to save the trouble :P
anyway..good idea, thanks, khair itni desperation nahi hai life mein :)

One more blogger said...

nahin yaar!! ab IIT Guys ko log
keh kar paraya mat karoo ;):D

Bhushan said...

koi farak nahi padta..we hve turned ascetic now :D

[Phoenix]
You may say that I'm a dreamer..
But I'm not the only one.
Some familiar traces you do chance upon,
when in hundreds you know none.

[Geetika]
Thank you. Thank you. Much appreciated :D

One more blogger said...

I think we have to redefine the meaning of ascetic :P :P
Despo log ascetic kab se ho gaye?? :P :D
[Vik]Mention nt :D
[Phoenix]Sometimes post se jyada interesting comments hote hai!! :)

Phoenix said...

[geetika]
Kitna apna pan aa raha hai! Waah...aap hi apne lo ek do ko.

Waise, comments are more interesting than the posts more often than not. Especially if they bloom into conversations.

[mostlybhu]
Waah, sahi hai, ye sab moh maaya tyaag di aapne!

[vik]
:) Granted. Dreams are god, anyway. Let's meet soon, for real.

Vik said...

[Phoenix, Geetika]
Really, it's more interesting than the post!

[mostlybhu]
Since I have no plans whatsoever of turning ascetic, Bhu, I find it decidedly inconvenient that you should use the word 'We' there. (Don't go by the tone.. I just framed the sentence on a Shawshank dialog, ok.. :D)

[Geetika]
Well, I better bow down, get on my knees, and say.. 'Your highness, we're not despo.' ;)
:P :P :P

[Phoenix]
Sure. Aajkal to Maine bhi insti jaana shuru kar diya hai :P (aur tumne band, I guess.)

Bhushan said...

[geetika]
k. got the 'context' ;);):)
kabhi kabar galti ho jati hai, but mostly its an inquisitive mind :)
Your highness ;)

[phoenix]
Ascetism is a much comprehensive concept.. kabhi fursat mein discuss karenge :)

[vik]
I had figured out d Shawshank tone :)
yaar, as i said the use of Ascetism wasnt intended the way it was perceived.. the use of 'we' was in that respect.. will take care next time :D
waise what has been referred to as 'moh maaya' is infact the reality of life.. no escape from that :P :D

[all]
this is really getting interesting..

[Phoenix]Kiddo main kaise apna lo ek do ko? I am one man's woman :)
