Chaand

Ek chaand mera
Ek tha jahaan ka
Ek pal churaya
Ik wahin gira tha
Ek aasmaan ka tukda
Us pal ka rehnuma tha
Kuch aur hi tha manzar
Kuch aur hi sama tha
Aankhon mein chaand chamka
Ek boond mein tha chhalka
Dil ko chubha naya ek
Ehsaas halka halka
Lafzon ne sath chhoda
Chupchaap se gila tha
Ek pal maine churaya
Ek pal wahin gira tha

Ek chaand mera
Ek chaand jahaan ka
Us chaandni mein mujh ko
Mera aashiyaan mila tha...

Growing up

I was reading random pages from my diary from 8 yrs ago and all I kept saying every couple of minutes was "gosh! I was so screwed up".

I wonder if 8 yrs from now I will read this blog and say the same thing. :) I hope so, actually, because it can only mean I'm improving. And also because in those pages, every now and then I read a sentence that makes me smile today, or makes me feel proud of myself for having such a profound thought at 16. What better gift can I give the future-me! :)

Sau gram zindagi

...and so, it was a longggg day.

Started at 4 am to face one of the worse Monday mornings, an early morning crib, a longgg flight, and a super hectic work day with non stop work from noon to 11 pm...

And then, at 11, I check into my hotel room - tired and hungry - and find beautiful flowers with a lovely message waiting for me.
Happy Valentines day, he says.

I'm not tired any more. I'm on the seventh moon. Or the ninth sky. Or the seventeenth cloud.

Touch wood, and thank God, for the precious little mercies of life.  For love.
For the do gram namak and cheeni in the zindagi ke sau gram.

Thank you. Can't stop smiling :)

Of roads not traveled and places not seen

Two in three people I know would say they love traveling if I asked them - or maybe more. I would too, of course, if you asked me. Traveling is really fun, exciting, adventurous. From ancient travelers who wrote tales about lands and regimes they passed through, to the modern-day backpackers and travelogue-writers, their choice of lifestyle has that enigma, that excitement worth being jealous of.

Of course, I am a consultant - it's one of a few jobs where traveling is a part of profile, a requirement. What, when, where, how much - all depends on how lucky or unlucky you are with staffing. :) But the why is always a constant, 99% is for work, 1% for official recreation, which is also work under disguise :)

One could argue that work related travel is hardly travel, and correctly so. Of course there's no fun in waking up insanely early for a morning flight, battle random traffic mess, airport queues, flight delays and train crowds to get somewhere, prim and proper to meet a client at about the same time you get to office on another day. And zip through roads, hotels, airports to work late till night because of all the travel time "lost", and brave yourself for an encore the following day. No complaints, it's part of the job!

But that's exactly what it is - part of the job. It isn't exactly traveling, is it. I have been in eight or nine cities in the last couple of weeks as part of the job. Short field phase. But that wasn't travel. What did I see of those cities? What do I remember of those sights and sounds and smells?

The boyfriend just returned from a nine day vacation to Sikkim. It reminds me the last trip I took to anywhere was a two day trip to Lansdowne - 250 kms from Delhi - almost a year ago. Excluding an overnight getaway to Alibaug near Mumbai few months back. And before that, I cant remember anything till the Sweden exchange except IITK.

It reminds me how little I have traveled in my entire life. It would shock most of you, but if I died tonight, I'd have never seen Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra (I was 2 when I was taken there - doesn't count), Goa, Shimla, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune .......And then there's the list of places that work has taken me in the past year - all comprising of work-filled stays of one night or less, and therefore not counting as travelled either - Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Kanpur (been to IITK once before for Antaragni). Hell, it would be shorter to count places I have been to.

I admit I'm a loser. I know you're going to say, take a week off, pick your bags and go somewhere, anywhere. I know I want to do that - have always wanted to. And still haven't. Till a year back I never had the money to do that. I was in college, I was supposed to study, have fun within the campus confines, and make my pocket money last the month. I also didn't have the friends, for the most part, for company. And what would I say at home? Where am I going - why, with whom. Now I can manage the money, but the other two is still a problem.

I know I need to get up, grab a backpack, and just leave. The complications would probably wait till I return. Someday.

Anyone wanna join?

Single and available???

My colleague at work was complaining yesterday, how all the nice guys (half-decent was her choice of adjective) in this world are taken and how we suddenly live in a terribly super-committed world. One could feel the agony in her words and see it in her eyes - "..and they don't ever break up either" - and now when I think about it, on one hand I still know a ton of people (esp guys) frustratingly single and ready to mingle, but that number (esp of the good ones) is definitely going down alarmingly. Have the times changed, or have we really become so old and settled in life? People I know are getting married for God sakes. Will I ever be able to find someone 'half-decent' to 'settle' with, *if* God forbid I ever want to, in another 2 or 3 years?

That is to say, should I start panicking about dying a maiden just yet? :P

On a related note, does anyone know any cute available guys in Mumbai? :P You are allowed to self-recommend, but self-introspect first.

On another note, I did a ton on household shopping yesterday, and fixed dinner and breakfast. I like the rhythm of things moving. :)

And does anyone know, why does every shop in Mumbai, including Dominos and Barista, have their shop boards in Hindi (and sometimes marathi, but that's logical) alongwith English? Curious.

Anti-climax II

Imagine a heavily melodramatic sentimental movie scene featuring a judaai among loved ones, or a farewell of some sort. Imagine, for the sake of the effects, a teary bidding-adieu moment at a railway station where one person is leaving for some xyz place for long, and in the final few moments before the train is about to leave, looks back at the place people and memories he/she is leaving behind. In fact, add flashbacks, loaded dialogues, background scores or even full-fledged sob-songs to the scene just so the flavor is complete.
So, the person finally breaks the embrace of his beloved people and place, who're perhaps secretly thankful they're gonna get a reprieve from this person but give nice sobby goodbyes anyway, and gets on the train. The train moves a few metres and suddenly comes to a stop. The station master tells you that because of "technical difficulties", the train cant leave right now, and there's a full 24 hour delay. So you have no choice but to go back, bag and baggage, to your home or whatever, and those people who just bid you goodbye and had already reallocated your room have to accomodate you again.

You understand the anti-climax, right?

Well, that just happened to me. :)

Okay, of course there wasn't so much drama and I still retain a room here at home, but you know, I was supposed to shift to Mumbai today and stuff, and everybody said goodbyes (I'd even done the packing!) and suddenly my company HR says, why don't you report in Gurgaon office on Monday instead of Mumbai office :)
Apparently, the project I've been staffed on, the team is in Delhi, so it made no sense to fly to Mumbai on sat and back on Sun because the mon morning meeting was in Delhi office and my ticket's cancelled. Now I don't have any other details at all, including whether this is a one-day, one-week or a one-month delay. I don't know anything yet, except that people who're happily calling me since last evening hoping to say bye, shoo, go to bombay, are being met with disappointment that the teary farewell has been postponed.

So, I'm gonna shift to Mumbai afterall (I'm so not unpacking!), but it could be later than sooner, and I have no clue when. Meanwhile I continue to pay a gigantic rent on a place in Mumbai I'm still not living in, and my poor flatmate has to grapple with setting up the house all alone. All this, when I'd always asked for a Delhi posting in the first place.

Life's suddenly exciting again. Fingers crossed for Monday. Wish me luck.

Phew, welcome to consulting, Taru.

Parking: the invincible monster

This is a long overdue story of the famous five who wished one day, to explore the streets of the ancient city of Delhi and undertake a voyage to see glimpses of its heritage, despite all the perils that lay on their way, primarily the monsters of traffic. This is a story of the L, the Doc, the Kiddo, the Psycho and the Munna, and their ever-trustworthy, beautiful Taani partner, aka this. It was a wonderful Saturday morning, and we wished to spend the day merrily around the city, in particular exploring the delights of the Walled City.
It didn't begin so well, and we started an hour later than we intended to, yet we made up for it by treating ourselves to Wimpy's burgers, arguably the best fast-food joint burgers in Delhi, and sang our way along to Red Fort. We braved the nuisance of afternoon traffic monsters with the strength provided to us by the aroma of the Dilli-6, and managed to reach our destination, but then we were faced by a monster so mammoth, fear crept inside our spine.
Parking.
We searched and searched, through the bylanes of Red Fort and Chandni Chowk parking, mindlessly cutting right across 4 lanes from left-most to U-turns, but in vain. The only spot we saw was immediately occupied by an industrious clever entrepeneur cutting down his floor area cost and setting shop there. Then we decided to get to the Chandni Chowk metro parking lot, but when we finally reached the gates of that heaven, we found ourselves caught in a queue outside the gate, for Heaven was full! We couldn't go front or back, and the queue moved very slowly, allowing inflow only when there was some outflow. We waited, and to our utter joy, 15 minutes later, we were allowed in. We celebrated in delight, but before we knew it, Heaven turned into hell. All we could see was darkness all around. Darkness and metal. Rows of cars lined in every possible space everywhere one could see. We got lost in the maze, trying to find beloved Taani a place to wait a few hours, but all in vain. 30 minutes later, we gave up and decided to exit. The exit, just like the entry was a 45 degree slope with cars parked on both sides on the slope of what was originaly a three lane exit from the basement.
As we were trying to make the accent, two cars ahead of us, someone had prized a spot on the slope and was trying to park it in, when he suddenly stopped and walked out, with the car half inside both lanes. On being called, he said, "Aap log 5 minute ruko, main chai pi ke aata hoon".
!!!!!!!
A part of us died there.
Somehow, he was persuaded, we got out and ran for life. We went all the way to Old Delhi Railway station, but the parking was full there as well. The last hope had died. We just made our way back, seeing Red Fort for the third time from the windows of the car in the last two hours.
It was just not meant to be.
The retreat was easier, and Doc was just being helpful when he yelled out at the top of his voice to the motorists struck in a jam on the opposite side of the road, "There IS no parking. Go back!"
We stopped at Darya Ganj to nurture a beaten soul and stomach, then made our way to CP, where to find ourselves some solace, a brilliant idea and some more outrageous lane manoeuvering led us to Jantar Mantar. When we finally parked, Doc with the parking ticketin his hand said with tears of joy: Finally!
So we saw a different beautiful red building, and original destinations have been left as hurdles for another day. Food and drink at CP healed us for the day.

But there was more on that day to follow. Doc took us to watch ek kutte ki emotional kahani, Marley and Me. (Jennifer Aniston is OLD now). While we were pulling our hair in frustration, Doc insisted he loved the movie, and I suspect it was because of the really hot chick sitting right next to him. For the rest of us, the movie sucked out whatever spirit the afternoon had left behind.
And so we retired to the abode, armed with fresh spirits, and even as other comrades joined us for what tured out to be an eventually entertaining night courtesy couple of my really drunk and really funny co-warriors, the day left us with leassons to learn and memories never to forget.

PS If you ever wanna go to Red fort or old delhi, park at a metro station, and take the tube. That is THE only way.
PPS Wenger's at CP is awesome, if you already didn't know.
PPPS If you find a better burger than Wimpy's, let me know.
PPPPS Please do not ask NMG or L their drunk and partially censored adventures of the night. They really don't remember.

Color

Randomly browsing through the archives, I stumbled on this post, when the picture in the post signified a snapshot of a certain point in my life. And then, al of a sudden in front of my eyes, the pic faded at some spots and brightened at others. Suddenly, there was new-found emptiness, while something had started filling the gaps there were before. As the picture metamorphosed before my eyes, I wondered, if the life that it contained metamorphosed too. And what about the me trapped between the uncolored pixels of that image? Has that changed? How?

Not an easy question to answer, I know, but I don't think an answer is what I'm looking for. If anything, if you could tell me, it would be nice to know if the pixels today have less or more color than they did.
But then again, what would I do with that information?
Smile, at best.
I can do that anyway. That would instantaneouly increase a little color in my life, hai na. :)

Seeing is believing

What we see depends largely on where we see it from.
Some of the events, conversations and feelings in the past few days have repeatedly brought back the above sentence to my mind. It gives me hope when things look ugly and skewed, because I can blame it on my vision and perspective, both correctable. It also reminds me that most of the joys, comforts and conveniences are illusory too. All of us are living at least partially in denial. As Calvin would have put it though, we are just selective about the reality we accept. :) :)

After a good weekend, full of my favorite people and amazing sports (probably the best tennis match I've seen) and good weather, I hope the coming days freshen up my lazy rotting mind and give me some crazy stuff to do.

Some days back I was wondering if I should blog anymore for I'd practically written everything I knew and felt and saw and had to say and couldn't think of a post. Now, reading that line again, I know I can write, because I'd stand at a different place and see something different. :)

Four zero zero

Similarly, just because this is the 400th post on this blog, it does not mean it is any special.

Or 400 times saner/useful/less(or more) crappy than the first one.
Real life isn't even interesting enough to be suitably perfectly gray.
Still, smile, come what may.

Today.

Let's build a new world
Let's think a fresh thought
Let's break another rule
Let's water an old drought
Let's smile a new smile
Let's wipe every tear
Let's fight a new fight
Let's bring someone near
Let's just give one more shot
Let's discover a new stream
Let's just start from scratch
Let's dream a new dream

Today, let's try.

Dork :-)

This post is dedicated to someone's who's awesome, by the virtue of being my super-awesome friend. :D His name is Doc and he's also known sometimes as Ramavajjala Vivek Govind(RVG). RVG's not as long and large and boring as that name of his, thankfully, but he is as cute and silly and dumbo as his other more real names, Dorkie, Geeko, Veevu, Viv, duffer etc. He boasts of a legendary IQ(<10) despite his super-human coding skills (he can code anything in the shortest possible time and wouldn't sleep 72 hrs just for the love of it...eewww). He's got an abnormally large head that's kept busy 24 hours by heavy threads that are used to think, think and think more crap than you can even imagine exists in this world, hence he's slow otherwise, or mostly lives on AI. He's also got an abnormally large heart, that can love and care so many people so well. He can kill for cheese, chocolate and ketchup, in that order. He can also kill for a hot girlfriend, but am not sure about the precedence ordering. He lives on periodic doses of scolding, and is quite a pro at taking that. Please don't take his psychotic blabbers caused by excessive thinking, or his hindi grammar seriously. He's awfully stubborn just like little kids. He has a 'weird' sense of humour. Also, for information of ladies who like nerds, he's single, ready to mingle and has a high-flying seven digit salary job that he joins in a month.

I half-wrote a poem for him, but praising him is a hard one to swallow, and one of the few things I really cannot live without is pulling his leg. :P Afterall, one of the few people I really can't live without is him, my best friend. :) Happy Birthday, doc! Love you sweety. Will miss you a LOT more than you can imagine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Among other things, yesterday an amazing thing happened, one of those that kinda refuels your belief in the fact that life evens itself out. An old friend, who turned into a bitter 'enemy', sorta, about 3 yrs ago over a misunderstanding that I never ever understood, and hence I lost that person despite all efforts...that friend came back, said sorry, and suddenly in 2 hrs, after all the catching up, it felt good again. It felt friends. That's an incredible feeling. Thanks.

Paradoxes

Some moments are magical in the way they allow opposites to co-exist. Tonight is one such moment.

Tonight I am very emotional, yet calm and peaceful.
In this moment, now, there is a lot of happiness and a deep pain. There is fun and masti, and also disappointment. There is gratefulness, especially to God, and there is an anger, a complaint. There is nostalgia, a lot of it, but also a little hope. There is the terrible sorrow one feels on losing something really precious, yet there is a sense of extreme joy at the realisation of that something precious having been there all this while, having been mine, and that it will never be truly lost. There is a deep sense of attachment and a strong growing urge of detachment. There is loneliness, a dark, desperate feeling of being lost and useless, and there is a bright smiling light on the other hand, something that reassures me with a loving presence that I'm not all alone, not all unwanted. Being forgotten feels bad, but when there is someone, somewhere who remembers you and you realise those are the only people who really matter to you, you just cannot stay feeling bad.

In the end, life is not a war that you have to win. Life is just this moment, this one-fist-joy, one-fist-sorrow, this flickering hope, this affectionate pain, this paradox. They say sometimes winning is the only thing. I would like to disagree...it never ever is everything. And thank God for that. I maybe a loser, but I have what really matters and what I really need, at the end of it all. It feels great. Thanks.

Long Drives.

I like analogies.

Life is like a long drive. Mostly, we are driving alone, in a car whose size changes with time and need. Some people have a load of people in their back seat who they have to drive for. A lot of times, there's nobody, just us, driving on, listening to the monologue on the FM. Some phases, out of city limits, are so lonely there's no FM either.

Sometimes we are driving in the fast lane, zipping past everyone else. Sometimes, we are stuck in traffic jams and getting nowhere in life. Sometimes, driving is a big pain, zipping through mad traffic and lawlessness, struggling to manoeuvre so as to get somewhere. Actually, to think of it, a lot of it is like that.

Sometimes it's raining, and the car gets stuck in deep water. Sometimes it's so foggy you can't see anything. Sometimes someone bumps their car into you, jolting you completely. Sometimes you run out of fuel or a tyre is punctured, and have to stop/push your car to the next station. If you're unlucky, once in a while your car breaks down completely, and then you need help to repair it and get it on the road again.

But you keep moving. Through roads and lanes. Sometimes even on paths that do not exist, on a road in the wild that you make as you travel. You just keep moving, till the end comes and you die in a fatal accident, on the road. That, is the rule.

And most of the times when you're driving by yourself, tired of the FM monologue you wish there was someone sitting next to you you could talk to: a friend. And you wish and you dream there was the someone special you could find who promised to stay by your side on your journey, someone who touched your hand everytime you moved it to change the gear.
Someone who bent over to kiss you at every red light.

Life, is a long drive. Sometimes, brakes fail.

Back!!!!

Hi all (if someone is still here)

I am back. :D :D :D
Don't ask me why I left, temporary insanity has little justification. And sometimes, circumstances are beyond control. As I temporarily wrote here too, the thing about being a phoenix is that you have to rise back, but also, that it is your destiny to be reduced to ashes every once in a while. :)
Then blogger froze my url, and it took about 20 days and four mails using this very useful link and finally this morning, I got a mail back. Love you blogger!!!!

I'm back for now, and I want to write again, here, at my home.
I feel a little fuller again :)

Love you everyone....

Finally!

Okay, enough of being sad and crying over all that's lost. To hell with it, you know. Atleast I have something. And I'm good, so I can live with it. Enough of staying depressed. Let's get on with it, let's do something.

One important lesson though, in life, if you believe, someone, some people, anyone is going to be with you and there for you always, you are kidding. It's totally false. If someone was there for you at some point of time, congratulations, you are lucky, because that someone just coincidentally happened to be there at that time and coincidentally understood it all and happened to be a nice person at heart so stood by you. If you're counting on such coincidences all the time, you're stupid. If you think when people sing "I'd be there for you..." they mean it, wake up.
Now all of you who wanna fight and debate with me on this, stop it. If you don't, okay, it means you wanna learn it the harder way rather than accepting it when I say it which is the easier way. Fine by me, good luck. :)

On happier note, now that exams are over and a lot of work is due, after the dussehra weekend, it wd get dead hectic again. Wow! :P

***************************

What now...something fun?

Okay, this is one tag I think is really interesting to do. Maybe because it tells you how greedy you really are, inspite of howmuchever of a saint you think you are! It's called "Thoda aur chalega".

The rules are simple. You got to write five things that you do have and are quite fond of/proud of because they really are good/feel-good (at least in your own perspective). These things can be anything...qualities, people, pets, clothes, goodies etc. Then you have to add one adjective to each, indicating what else you'd wish (dream, fantasise etc.) these things to also have. Like the extra free chocolate topping on a five scoop hot chocolate fudge with nuts, chocolate sauce, raisins etc.
An example could be: My super cool super fast car....I wish I had a red-coloured super cool super fast car.

Here's my greed-list:

1. A sensible head....I wish I had a consistently sensible head. (one that can deal with my own mood swings. God those suck!) :P

2. The world's best boyfriend....I wish I had a very romantic world's best boyfriend. :P :P

3. Uncanny knack of pulling some people's leg and getting the better of them with sarcasm/scolding....I wish I had an invincible uncanny knack of pulling some people's leg and getting the better of them with sarcasm/scolding. :P

4. This blog that I love and that has given me a whole lot of lovely people and perspectives....I wish this blog that I love and that has given me a whole lot of lovely people and perspectives was more popular/better-read. :P

5. Parents who are very loving and supportive....parents who are very loving and supportive who were better friends with me.

Okay your turn now....I pass this on too:
Shantanu
Akshay
Desperado
Doc
Vikram
Tapasya
Arpz

and whoever wants to do it :P

Kidding is serious business!!

Have you seen the Dhara advertisement where the li'l kid says, "koi mujhse pyar nahi karta main ghar chhodke ja raha hoon." and is then lured by jalebis back home. I am so in that mode, except I can't say that line to anyone/go anywhere/nobody's gonna lure me back. All because they think that at 20, I'm not a kid.
Question 1, who the hell is they? Question 2, how the hell did they decide? And question 3, why can't I be a kid any more?

So you and you and they and all of they's friends can please go to hell, because the kiddo mode I'm living in for the last 2 hours is bound to stay some more. I LIKE being a kid. I LOVE being silly. What's anybody's problem in that?
Why can't you people see me happy? See I'm happy, [shows you a thumb], do what you want to do. (And I'm happy and I'm ranting, which proves you can rant when you are not sad. QED. Yey!)

The point is, the bade log of these world are all jerks. They just lovvvvvve complicating simple things and then complainign how tough life is. They can't answer a single question kids ask properly and completely (no aukat only!!) and still say they are the ones who know more stuff. Kids are good, they fight, but in that love now, slap after five minutes and kick throw bang boom cry complain smile again at ten. Adults fight stretchign stuff so long that nobody can possibly remember what the dispute was, and all they keep to themselves is big biggg words like discomfort and selfishness and adjustment and small biggg words like ego and sin. Huh!

Everything is actually so confusing...a few days back I was telling a friend.." So, your gf did this thing wrong, and though it hurt you then you can easily understand it was a small unintentional mistake and you already claim you'd forgive her if she comes to you and apologises. Right? So, tell me, why this if. If you can forgive her then, why wait or her to come and SAY sorry before forgiving her in your heart. Why stay bitter? Why prick a hole in both your hearts? Don't you even love her this much that you can forgive her without her actually physically asking for it?" And he was looking at me as if I just taught him rocket science!!! Double huh!!

Mujhe nahi rehna is bekar duniya mein aise....
People just invent reasons to be sad. You're "supposed" to grow up and act sane. Why the hell? You know what, if you wanna act all adult, then please go ahead and act adult by pampering me and jhelofying my excitements and tears and moods etc etc in that truly adult sort of way and derive the adultish post-pampering satisfaction out of it.
I'm cool with that. Instead, what you'd do is lecture me how I'm supposed to become as 'sensible' and 'sophisticated' and 'mature' as you!!!! Triple huh!!!

Just let me be ok. Kids are cuto ( kiddos are cuto-er). And everybody else is really really gandu.

And remember, it's ok if you don't understand me/like me/love me/like to pamper me/can't jhelofy me, it's OK. just lemme be. Lemme be silly because I like it. Just dont take stuff to heart. Just dont make me guilty.
Just dont make me cry. ForI've noone to lovingly wipe the tears.
Hope *you* got the point, honey!

Cheers to stupidity!! :D

:) :) :)
